Plant Adpatations
- Plankton, which are extremely important in the ecosystems of Leatherback Sea Turtles, have adapted to increase their buoyancy so that they can better stay afloat and have access to the sunlight they need to make their food through photosynthesis. Many of the larger plants that are on the bottom of the ocean floor and on reefs in the open sea have had to adapt to the salinity levels in the water. Their cells have to adapt so that they do not shrink due to osmosis. Free-floating plants such as kelp have had to adapt to be able to attach to rocks and other hard surfaces so that they can stay in one place and perform photosynthesis.
