Part Two
- The speciation event that caused the split was at about 4 million years ago. This was during a time where water temperatures and overall climate of the oceans were changing. The water temperatures became much warmer, and as a result more species were able to live in the waters the LSTs do. Many species of fish that are more common in tropical areas became readily available in the habitats of LSTs. Jellyfish do not hold much nutritional value, and the population needed more energy and nutrition to compete with new species, and to consume new species. So, a branch of LSTs began to consume other fish besides jellyfish. This split eventually became two different species.
