- This is an example of disruptive selection. This means that both extremes of a phenotype are favored, and the intermediate phenotype is not favored. For example, the underbelly of a LST may have allowed it to live closer to the water. But maybe it is either beneficial for a LST to live in deeper water, or close to the surface, but not really in between due to different food sources.
